ADOPT A PEOPLE’S BUDGET: Even though City Council’s failure to take action on the budget has allowed the Mayor’s proposed budget to pass by default on June 1st, City Council can still propose and vote on adjustments. We want more services for unhoused Angelenos, including housing in the thousands of empty hotel rooms throughout the city; more mental health services; rent suspension and cancellation for the 55% of Angelenos who are currently unemployed; more funding for public schools and resources to ensure all students — regardless of their situation — can continue learning during these uncertain times. DEFUND THE POLICE: 54% of the unrestricted General Fund is currently allocated to LAPD. We demand that City Council and the Mayor disinvest from the police. We want a budget that invests in our priorities and needs. The community must have a chance to make their case to redistribute the LA budget to prioritize #CareNotCops — we want services that help and strengthen our communities especially during a pandemic, not more police to tear them apart.
